When I think about the latest and best SEO practices, what comes to mind is ‘What would Matt Cutts do?’ Matt Cutts is widely known as Google’s poster boy. Here is a recent quote from him “Mobile is going to surprise a lot of people. Be sure you look at how your site looks and performs on mobile.”
At a session called “What’s Needed for SEO Success in 2013 and Beyond”, in March of last year, Matt Cutts showed his talent as a politician by dodging questions and not revealing any spoilers. A big lesson out of it was the fact that there will be changes in Google’s smartphone search rankings, for those websites that are “misconfigured for smartphone users”. This should be a wakeup call for most marketers, who are yet to address their website’s mobile experience.
Mobile websites and responsive designs are not new. Studies show that from 2010 to 2012, mobile traffic has tripled worldwide. The logic behind this change is that, mobile devices are now frequently used to visit websites and you require a website experience that is optimized for these devices.
